Ferndale ladies hosted Leamington Lions in the FA cup for their first game of the new season. Leamington started off brightly putting a lot of pressure on the ferndale defense. Mid way through the first half Leamington scored 2 quick goals, a good move started from the ferndale defence saw Dani Morris pull a goal back for the home team, Leamington responded quickly makingn the score line 3-1 at half time.
In the second half both teams had a numerous of chances, with leamington scoring 2 more goals to make the score line 5-1. From this point ferndale was pressuring the away team defence and goal keeper, creating chance after chance the keeper pulled off some really good saves to prevent then home team scoring. A break through in the 80th minute saw new signing Becky Maunder score on her debut to make the score 5-2. Well done to both sides.
Ferndale travel away to Studley this week for their first league game.
Ferndale 3 Studley 1
Kizzie Wassell 1, Macca 2
Ferndale Ladies travelled to Studley United for their first league game in the west Midlands league, and came away with a creditable 3-1 victory over a strong opposition. Debutant Kizzy Wassell opened the scoring after just 5 minutes with a clinical finish, however Studley hit back within 3 minutes to level up the scoring with a well struck goal. Ferndale continued to put pressure on the Studley defensse and were awarded a penalty on 29 minutes, lucy Mcloughlin stepped up to give Ferndale a 2-1 lead at half time.
The second half was evenly fought, Mel Zaffino coming on as sub to make her debut put in a fine dispaly. After 75minutes Ferndale wrapped up the the game and earned a well fought 3 points with Lucy Mcloughlin beating the offside trap to make it 3-1.
Ferndale travel to Birmingham Athletic next week for the second league game

Sophie 1
Ferndale travelled to Birmingham Athletic last week and came away with a 1-0 victory.
In a tough game Birmingham piled on the pressure and came close to scoring on seversl occassions, but good defending and goalkeeping kept them at bay.
Birmingham missed a great chance of taking the lead on 20 mins when their striker fired over from 6yds with an open net.
The second half saw Ferndale soak up more pressure, on 62 mins Mel Zaffino and on 69 mins Sophie Johnson came on and Sophie slotted home the winning goal on 71 mins to give Ferndale the 3 points. Lydia Broom pulled off a fantastic save on 85 mins. Ferndale ended the game on 10 players after injury. Holly Penwarden was named player of the match.
Next week Ferndale entertain Dudley United at home.
Ferndale 4 Headless Cross 0
Ferndale Ladies entertained Headless Cross on Sunday and cam away with a 4 - 0 victory with a depleted squad through injuriesn and illness. Ferndale Bossed the 1st half and goasl from skipper Holly Penwarden on 12 and 45 minutes and Lucy Mcloughlin on 32 minutes gave Ferndale a 3-0 interval lead. With all the pressure and some fine saves from the Headless Cross keeper, Ferndale had to wait until 87minutes to wrap up the game with a pin point free kick from Bex meredith, found the head of Kizzy Wassel to make the fianl score line 4-0. Player of the match was Vicky Hyde with a solid defensive performance. Ferndale travel to Knowle Ladies next week for a league game.
Ferndale 0 Worcester City 1
After having 2 free weeks, Ferndale entertained a well prepared Worcester City Side. The first half was very close with both teams playing some good football, seeing Ferndale have 2 great chances, however failing to hit the back of the net. At half time saw the game at a 0 0 deadlock. Both teams in the 2nd half started well and both teams pressuring forward, mid way through the 2nd half saw Lydia Broom pull off an amazing save to prevent a well struck strike from Worcester's left winger. Against the run of play in the last 5 minutes saw a free kick from the half way line for Worcester, end in a goal from a touch from the left Winger Genie Ward that trickled over the line after the keepr getting a touch. Final score finishing 1 0 to Worcester, a good battle by both teams, well done to all. Ferndale travel close to home on sunday in the county cup against Stourport Swifts Ladies.
