Netherton Girls 3 V 1 Ferndale Youth
The 1st game of this delayed season saw the Youth playing at a new central venue, against new opposition, and playing 9 a side on a full sized pitch with full sized goals, for30 mins each way.
The Youth started with only 9 players today due to Gabie Minard being ill and Alice Fish being unavailable. With the Youth at a bare minimum and the opposition having subs, the youth girls had a far bigger task in front of them The players arrived eager 20 mins before kickoff but with a 915am kick off some seamed to still be in the beds. The game kicked off with us playing a 3-4-1 formation and within 2 mins our first attack won us a penalty for handball. Up stepped Molly Maguire who coolly despatched the ball into the top right hand corner making the score 1-0. However within 4 mins of the restart a missed kick in defence saw the scores levelled at1-1. The girls seemed to go to switch off and following confusion in defence Netherton got their 2nd goal, which although not flagged was yards offside. Half time score 2-1.
In the 2nd half it was expected that Netherton would take the advantage of the subs they had as our girls tired, but Youth battled to the end and the fitness was there for all to see. Unfortunately a further goal, virtually a carbon copy of the second making, was conceded. Although we created some chances in the 2nd half no further goals were forthcoming making the final score 3-1.
Management are proud of the excellent attitude of all the players especially in view of the fact it was their first time with a full sized pitch and goals. The girl of the game shield went to Emilia Sinden who was as tenacious as ever and had a stormer. Well done girls a great 1st effort and start to the season which will surely improve & progress with experience & a full squad.

Ferndale Youth 0 v 1 Netherton Girls
:
This is our second match of the season & due to the way the fixtures have been drawn we again met last week’s opposition Netherton Girls. We started with 10 players giving us more flexibility with the game.
The game started and the girls were really on their game, with lots of effort and you could see the girls were looking to pass whenever the chance arose. We created 5 or 6 chances in the first half, most of them falling to Molly Maguire which she just couldn’t convert. Unfortunately Netherton's one and only real breakaway allowed them to score, a soft goal despite the defences effort to clear the ball. Half time score 0-1.
Again in the 2nd half it was all Ferndale. Gabie Minard managed to get into the box but her shot went wide, Molly M had a shot hit the post and in the dying seconds she ran onto a fantastic pass by Alice Fish and again hit a lovely shot on the run, which went just wide again. The second half belonged to Ferndale who over the whole match created far more chances than their opponents, but the couple of chances Netherton did have were dealt with well with by keeper Charleigh Lowe. Final score 0-1.
In summary a far better performance than last week against the same opposition, showing how rapidly the girls are learning & coming to terms with playing on a bigger pitch. Girl of the game trophy went to Molly Maguire for her all round display. Well done girls for a great improvement, although unlucky not to get any points from the game.

Ferndale Youth 3 v 4 Warstone Wanderers
The 3rd league game of the season saw Ferndale again with only the basic 9 players, as both Molly’s were unavailable today. Despite the 9-15 start all the girls seemed up for it so hopes were high for our first win of the season.
From the moment Warstones kicked off we managed to steal the ball, with Megan Garbett taking a rampaging run down the right and crossing in but nobody was able to latch onto it. 4 mins later another run down the right ended in a goal for Georgia E who tapped in from 6yrds out making it 1-0 to us. For 20 mins the score remained, then following a goal kick intercepted by 1 of their players and Warstones equalised despite Charleigh Lowe’s effort. 2 mins later they scored again with a deflected shot off the Ferndale defence which looped over the keeper into the net making the score 1-2 at half time.
The first 20 mins of the second half saw Ferndale with the best of the play but unfortunately 2 defensive mistakes took the score to 1-4. Managing to lift the girls heads, which had dropped and with 6 mins to go our 2nd goal came from a corner which was slotted home by Alice Fish, followed quickly with 2 mins, left a third, following a lovely 3 pass move which had 3 Ferndale players chasing it but in stepped Megan putting the ball in the bottom right hand corner. Final score 3-4.
Despite creating many decent chances to score and only converting 3 of them, the game was lost after the only chances the opponents had were of our making. The girls will learn from this and although a disappointing score line the management are proud of the girls for battling hard and maximum effort which is all we could ask for.
Girl of the game this week went to Alice for her effort in training and all round play today. Well done everybody.

Gornal West 5 v 0 Ferndale Youth
:
With 2 more of our players missing and against one of the more fancied teams in this league, all we were looking for was a good committed performance and not really expecting to get anything from this game. The match kicked off with us taking the game to Gornal with our usual gusto with penetrating runs down the wing from Megan Garbett and Molly Maguire but with no just rewards for their efforts. Georgia Eaton playing a lone striker’s roll was up against 2 quality defenders and gave a good performance considering they were bigger and more stronger on the ball, and to her credit she never gave in to the tougher attitude she has experienced in this league. With our normal left back playing at right back and out left winger taking the left back our defence changed this week. This caused us problems as the girls, unfamiliar with the roles, tended to return to their normal slots and the gaps were there for their fast striker to expose, which she did on 3 occasions in the match. Despite Charliegh Lowes attempts to get her hand to the ball the corner shots saw the score at half time 3-0. Although the girls came off and down beat because they were again losing, they were told to go out and give everything they had got as they did last week, and to their credit they all battled well. But playing uphill the challenge was really on. And unfortunately 2 more goals were conceded. Despite the girls creating a few chances, making the final score 5-0.
The girl of the Game trophy went to Molly Maguire for her tireless runs and all round play. On reflection this wasn’t a bad result as we had a few chances, despite general play not being their best, but their fitness showed, as there was still something in the tank when they had finished despite there being no subs. The next game out is against Halas Hawks and hopefully we can get our first win which will come i’m sure is not far away. Well done girls a good performance with lots of effort.

Stourbridge & District Youth Football League, U12 Girls League Cup Group B
Halas Hawkes 3 v 3 Ferndale Youth
Molly Plant 1,Molly Maguire 2,
Today was the last game in the League Cup group b , and was against Halas Hawks. Both teams arrived in buoyant moods, despite Ferndale being without Georgia Lambert, Alice Fish and Rhiannon Gower making us a player down.
We started the game on the attack, but after a few missed efforts on goal we conceded the opening goal through sloppy defending. Credit must go to the girls as they battled back and following a 4 pass move got their just rewards. The move was a treat and started in defence with Emilia Sinden passing to Megan Garbett who crossed to Georgia Eaton, and it was finished Molly Plant, her first goal for the Club when she shot under the keeper, and was celebrated with high fives all around. The half time score was 1-1.
After a good team talk we came out and kept Halas penned into their half, desperately trying to get a second and on 50 mins we succeeded through Molly Maguire. From a loose ball outside the box Molly went passed 3 players and scored 1-2. Virtually straight after the kick off Halas had an attack which resulted in a lucky goal as it deflected off our player but despite the efforts of keeper Charleigh Lowe it crept into the net score now 2-2. Although you could see the girls were getting tired, I asked for that final push but as we attacked we lost the ball and Halas scored again making the score now 3-2. Encouraged by Chloe O’Donnell (who was captain today) the girls still battled and kept attacking. Finally in the last minute of the game a run down the right by Megan was crossed and the on-rushing Molly M shot into the corner of the net on 60mins. The final whistle went on the kick off seeing the final score at 3-3.
Special mention should go to Gabie Minard today for her girl to girl marking and Emilia Sinden for here boundless energy covering our defence. The Girl of the Game trophy today went to Molly Plant in recognition of her first goal, but also her fighting qualities in midfield. Another good performance girls, as your manager I was proud today with the way you never gave in and fought right to the end well gone girls despite only having 8 players.
Having been unbeaten in the last 4 games in the League cup, Ferndale have now finished top of Group B which sees us through to the Semi Finals.

Friendly
Ferndale Youth 1 v 3 Wordsley Wasps
Emilia Sinden 1
Due to the rescheduling of Cup games, we found ourselves having to organise this friendly against Wordsley Wasps U13, playing a year above us. Despite the girls having a good warm up and team talk, it looked like some were still in their beds, with us conceding a goal within 5 mins of the start. Some slack defending unfortunately saw our keeper Charleigh Lowe beaten just over her outstretched hand to make the score 0-1. This point onwards saw our passing football, making us more dominant and creating a few chances in front of the goal to no avail. Having the luxury of 10 players today I was rotating the players trying to get the right combination, but as we were attacking we lost the ball, again they scored from a breakaway, which looked offside but no flag went up. Halftime score 0-2.
After a constructive team talk at half time the girls came out fighting, more like the team from recent performances. Within 10mins of the restart we got a goal back through Emilia Sinden when she battled into the area and managed to get onto a throw from Megan Garbett, she chipped the keeper making the score 1-2. Emilia is now doing this on a regular basis and from a defensive position, is good to see. Again the girls played some outstanding football in the second half of this match, created more chances and yet again we got caught on the counter, which again looked offside to me, and we conceded another making it 1-3. Despite a number of valiant attempts in the last 5 minutes the girls could not pull another goal back, a final score of 1-3.
This was a good result despite losing, as this team from Wordsley drew with Halas Hawks U13 last week 1-1. With Halas beating us 14-1 a few weeks ago this result says to me we have improved quite a lot since playing them, and I am so proud of the girl’s for how they have come on in such a short space of time. The Girl of the Game trophy today went to Charleigh Lowe for her great efforts in training and in the match today, having dominating her box.
Well done girls a great reply after a weaker first half.
